"Cleo's Family" is a Belgian band with a complete neo-funk-soul album (12 original titles-composed, produced and arranged by Sebastien Degreef and lead vocalist Cleo). The band has a tradition of performing live and is featured in various compilations.
The album has been reviewed by Rebel Soul as excellently produced "sophisticated funk" and by "fonkadelica" (a french site/ news forum for soul and funk music) as a fresh and unique sound that is innovative in it's genre. It's interest being in that it's incomparable to none, with it's clean production and the lead voice-warm, sweet, sensual and strong*.
Cleo's family has performed live at various venues including the AB club, the Brussels Jazz Marathon, Botanique (Orangerie), Dour Festival, Couleur Café Festival, Polé Polé Festival, American Movie Day, opening act for Me’shell Ndegeocello, opening act for Sheila E, Genste Feesten, Jazz Break-Tavernier, Charlatan, Fêtes de la musique, and many other gigs. Influenced by both the "old school" (James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Curtis Mayfield, Motown) and the present nu-soul scene (Prince, D'Angelo, Jill Scott etc), this organic band is known for their eclectic shows and appeals to a wide variety of audiences with it's balance of energetic funk grooves and it's touching, well-thought soulful lyrics that are expressed with such raw emotions, the music resonates the aspirations of a generation of young people from all backgrounds. The Tavernier refers to the band's distinctive sound as a major player in the Belgian neo-soul scene that " will spread the philly soul sound over your wicked shelter!"
